Spinal Disorders

Lumbar Spine Disorders

I manage patients with back pain, trapped nerve (sciatica) and lumbar canal stenosis which may present with the following symptoms:
  • Pain (back pain and pain shooting down the leg)
  • Numbness and tingling in the leg/foot
  • A sensation of weakness in the legs
  • Symptoms worse on extertion

My management involves taking a detailed history, a neurological examination and may include tests such as an MRI scan, nerve conduction test and in rare cases a CT scan

The most common cause for these symptoms is degenerative disease or 'wear and tear' of the spine

In selected cases, surgery will help these symptoms significantly

Alternative strategies such as physiotherapy, analgesia and targetted injections may also be appropriate

I reguarly perform the following surgeries to treat degenerative spine disease
  • Lumbar microdiscectomy
  • Lumbar laminectomy
  • Lumbar foraminotomy (or nerve root decompression)

I welcome NHS referrals via my secretary (clinics Monday evening and Thursday afternoon) and private referrals (clincs Tuesday mornings at Parkside Hospital) via 0208 725 4182. I am recognied by all major UK health insurers.
